Forty five workers will graduate with a Diploma of Whānau Ora at a ceremony on Friday August 3 2018 at Mangere’s Holiday Inn.
This is the 4th and largest cohort to graduate with the NZQA approved and accredited level 5 qualification. The diploma enables kaimahi to study and achieve a diploma qualification relevant to their work with whānau Māori and the wider whānau community.
They receive in-depth knowledge, skills and experiences in mātauranga Māori well-being approaches for Whānau Ora contexts during the two year part time study.
Whānau Waipareria – who designed the course – CEO John Tamihere said it was important kaimahi who work in the Whānau Ora space be recognised. He said the diploma was developed for communities and produces a worker who can stretch across three disciplines – health, education and social services.
“This diploma recognises the outstanding mahi these kaimahi do in and for their communities,” John said.“This tohu also gives them and their work mana.”
The diploma has been designed as a workforce development qualification, catering specifically for Whānau Ora Kaimahi working in Whānau Ora organisations
The class of 2018 come from organisations from throughout Te Ika a Maui – Kaitaia in the North, New Plymouth in the West, Te Puia Springs in the East, and Te Whanganui a Tara in the South.

• New Zealand Diploma in Kaupapa Māori Public Health (Level 6)
• New Zealand Diploma in Addiction Studies (Applied) (Level 6)
